Short version: PixelAuth is a tool that helps you authenticate your photos. Use it responsibly. The digital watermark and timestamp are technical elements — they do not constitute certified legal proof in all jurisdictions.
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading or using PixelAuth (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.
These Terms apply to all versions of the App distributed via the Apple App Store.
Description of the Service
PixelAuth is an iOS application that allows you to:
- Embed an invisible DCT digital watermark in your photos and images
- Obtain an RFC 3161 timestamp from a Time Stamping Authority (TSA) of your choice
- Generate a PDF certificate combining the watermark and timestamp information
- Verify the presence of a watermark in a previously signed image
License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal or professional purposes, subject to these Terms.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or distribute the App or any part of it
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Use the App to build a competing product or service
- Sublicense or sell access to the App
Acceptable Use
You agree to use PixelAuth only for lawful purposes. You must not use the App to:
- Authenticate media you do not own or have no right to use
- Create false or misleading certificates of authenticity
- Infringe upon third-party intellectual property rights
- Circumvent any security measure or access control
- Engage in any fraudulent, deceptive, or harmful activity
Legal Value of Timestamps and Certificates
Important notice: The certificates and timestamps generated by PixelAuth are technical identification elements. Their legal evidentiary value depends on the jurisdiction and the TSA provider used.
Specifically:
- FreeTSA (default) — provides a free RFC 3161 timestamp for technical reference only. It is not qualified under the eIDAS regulation and does not carry certified legal value in the European Union.
- eIDAS-qualified providers — if you configure a qualified TSA provider (CertEurope, Certigna, DigiCert, etc.), the timestamp benefits from a legal presumption of accuracy in the European Union under Regulation (EU) No 910/2014.
- United States — RFC 3161 timestamps may be admissible as evidence under the Federal Rules of Evidence, but PixelAuth makes no representation as to their admissibility in any specific legal proceeding.
We strongly recommend consulting a qualified legal professional if you intend to rely on PixelAuth certificates in any legal context.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will be available at all times or free of errors
- The watermark will survive all types of image processing, compression, or manipulation
- The certificates generated will be accepted as legal proof in any jurisdiction
- The third-party TSA services will remain available or maintain their current policies
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of profits, or any other losses arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App.
Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the App, including all intellectual property rights, are and will remain the exclusive property of PixelAuth and its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or other brand features.
You retain full ownership of all media files you sign using the App. We claim no rights over your content.
Third-Party Services
The App may connect to third-party TSA services (such as FreeTSA) to obtain timestamps. These services are operated by independent parties and are subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service.
Updates and Modifications
We reserve the right to modify the App or these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.
Apple App Store
These Terms are between you and PixelAuth only, not with Apple Inc. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, the Apple terms shall govern solely with respect to Apple's obligations.
